Sooo...(awkwardly long pause) Hi.

This is the first time I'm ever writing a blog and let me tell you, like every other first-time, this too is a bit scary and nerve-racking. But, I think that's mostly because I’ll be graded for this.

I'll start this thing by introducing myself a bit:

I’m a mammal, belonging to the homo sapien species, defined as a female, scientifically, living on the 3rd rock from our solar system's sun also known as the Earth. Beyond that, everything else I'm still figuring out.

I hope that this is enough to break the ice.

For this week's blog, I think I should start with something fun that happened last week in the field of sports, not that I'm very big in sports.

Greatest International Scavenger Hunt (GISH).

"A scavenger hunt- but that's not a sport." You may say.

Well, my fellow human, according to the dictionary sport is - “an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature.” And this particular scavenger hunt is exactly that.

GISH, previously know as, #GISHWHES was started by Misha Collins and The Random Act, in 2011, as a week long event with the mission to wake up the world and change it for the weirder— and better.

Last Saturday, 4th August 2018, this year's GISH came to an end with some new friendships, puppies with new homes, a planet full of creativity and fun, with breaking some new world records and a better and kinder place with some little, random acts of kindness.

Well, all that sounds interesting but you may be wondering what exactly happens during this hunt?

Well, as I mentioned above, it's a week long hunt, consisting of teams of 16 members from around the world. Did I mention the fact that you don’t need to be from the same country to be part of a team? Which is great if you just want to meet up and work with random people. Like many people, you can take part in the hunt just for fun. Or even as a full-on competition.

On the first day of the of the hunt, a list of tasks is released.

You can see this years task list from the link below:

Some of this year's tasks included:

(49 Points)

Children in the foster system often have no personal possessions. Fill a pillowcase with comforts, like a stuffed animal, blanket, a book, pjs, etc. and donate to your local foster organization.

Final project! #Item11 Backpacks for foster kids. I hope at least one of these backpacks can bring a bit of joy to a kid going through an incredibly tough time. Thank you @GISH for giving me an opportunity to help out my community in a new way. #GISH #gish2018 -Amanda Johnson (@aliveagain8)

(17 Points)

Beard garden.

#Item27 Beard Garden. I feel like a Disney Prince This item meant a lot to me. When I began transitioning I said when I grow a beard I’m putting flowers in it. I hadn’t yet. I’m greatful this item pushed me & gave me the opportunity to do something I’ve always wanted to do #GISH - Dmitri (@subtextiel).

Fashion isn’t dead! It’s time for spectral beings to hit the runway. Show us a ghost fashion show on real fashion show runway with an audience.

And the list continues.

Each team gets points according to their creativity. After completing the tasks at the end of the hunt the teams need to upload a picture or video online. And the team who gets the most points gets to go on an all expense paid trip with Misha Collins somewhere in the world. This year's winning team will be going to New Zealand.

Every year the proceedings earned from the registrations are use as donations and for saving the planet. Last year, with GISHWHES, we were able to save a forest in Nepal. This year, we saved and rescued animals and provided them a loving home.

Gish is not just hunt.

Its about spreading love, sharing and kindness.

To conclude in the wise words of Misha Collins:

"No matter what your beliefs, background or country of origin, we hold this truth to be self-evident: to be weird is to claim your independence. Literate your inner rebel. Reject normalcy and let freedom ring."
